- 中文摘要: The 1993 version of the National Mathematics Curriculum advocates that students be active while learning. The scope and sequence of this curriculum, the experimental texts of which have gone through experimentation since 1992, conforms to "the logic of generating discipline knowledge" instead of "the logic of compiling discipline knowledge". Instruction is to be "student-centered learning" instead of "teacher-centered lecturing". As a result, mathematics teachers must develop new goals for professional growth. The National Taipei Teachers College laboratory school is unique in that the whole school adopted the new curriculum during 6 years of experimentation. During the 6 years, oneteacher, Ms. Lien, played three different roles: a teacher for two years, an observer for four years, and a mentor for two years. She grew professionally in these roles. Before the teaching, she placed emphasis on lecturing and conducting exercises in her mathematics classes. She did not dare trust students' spontaneous performance. She emphasized students' understanding but did not really know how to help them understand. However, after participating in the curriculum reform teaching program for 6 years, she has become an exceptional teacher specializing in students' cognitive development. She gradually achieved her own professional growth goals, just like her colleagues. The evidence for Ms. Lien's rapid professional growth includes her responses during workshops, her papers, and her classroom teaching. Her success should be, of course, traced back to her personal qualities and social skills; and most importantly, to the special schoolbased in-service development program. Ms. Lien's example shows that when curriculum reform was coupled with in-service development programs it enabled both the teachers and the program to be successful.
