• 英文摘要： The electrolytic dimerization of formaldehyde has been investigated at lead cathode in acidic solutions. Orthogonal design based on fixed model approach was adopted to construct an experimental plan. Statistical techniques are used to analyze experimental results. Also, the effects of process factors, e.g. temperature, pH, current density and agitation, on current efficiency and applied voltage are studied. On the basis of these results, we can conclude that the electrosynthesis of ethylene glycol is feasible and the electroreduction of formaldehyde on a lead electrode is a complex reaction. Preliminary data obtained reveal that operating current density and temperature are the most critical parameters governing the current efficiency of ethylene glycol formation from formaldehyde. Agitation has an adverse effect on yield of ethylene glycol. Furthermore, current efficiency generally decreases with prolonged electrolysis time.
