- 英文摘要: Experimental infection with enterovirus type 71 (EV71)induced death in neonatal mice in an age- and dose-dependent manner. The mortality rate was 100% follow-ing intraperitoneal inoculation 1-day-old ICR mice andthis gradually decreased as the age at the time of inocu-lation increased (60% in 3-day-old mice and no deathsoccurred in mice older than 6 days of age). A lethal dosegreater than 108 PFU was necessary. Lethargy, failure togain weight, rear limb tremors and paralysis were ob-served in the infected mice before death. EV71 was iso-lated from various tissues of the dead mice. Using areverse transcription polymerase chain reaction tech-nique with a specific primer pair, a 332-by product wasdetected in the tissues that produced a culture positivefor EV71. Protection against EV71 challenge in neonatalmice was demonstrated following passive transfer ofserum from actively immunized adult mice 1 day afterinoculation with the virus. Pups from hyperimmunedams were resistant to EV71 challenge. Additionally,maternalimmunization with a formalin-inactivatedwhole-virus vaccine prolonged the survival of pups afterEV71 lethal challenge.
